We offer a comprehensive polystyrene recycling solution for the mid and lower North Island, operating from our Palmerston North warehouse.
Our service is part of a closed-loop recycling system, ensuring sustainable management of polystyrene waste. In collaboration with the Palmerston North City Council, we’ve made polystyrene recycling accessible to local residents.
Household polystyrene up to one cubic metre in size can be dropped off at Palmerston North City Council’s Ferguson Street Recycling Centre, supporting our commitment to community-wide recycling initiatives.
Our polystyrene recycling services extend to Councils, waste and recycling companies, retailers, and businesses across the lower North Island in New Zealand.
We accept large loads of polystyrene in bulk bags, making it convenient for commercial entities to participate in our recycling program. For Palmerston North businesses, we offer on-site collections, further facilitating polystyrene recycling in the local area.
Acceptable materials for our polystyrene recycling process include clean, dry, white and coloured (not black) polystyrene. To ensure efficient recycling, the polystyrene must be free from dirt, glue, metal, or liquids, with all tape and cardboard removed.
Our advanced polystyrene recycling process involves:
1. Feeding the polystyrene into our specialised machine
2. Breaking down and shredding the material
3. Heating to create a paste
4. Cooling and hardening to form ingots
This process reduces the volume of polystyrene by an impressive 90%, significantly decreasing its environmental footprint.
The resulting ingots are then exported to Malaysia, where they undergo further processing. They’re heated, extruded, and converted into raw material pellets, which find new life in the manufacture of picture and mirror frames for the global market.
By choosing our polystyrene recycling services, you’re contributing to a more sustainable future for New Zealand and beyond.
